Ami from Seattle October 28th, 2009 I use a double electric for pumping at work, but it's a hassle to use for the occassional at home use when my husband is out with the baby and misses a feeding. Plus, I wanted a back-up pump in case something happens to my electric, to keep my supply up.
The pump is comfortable, and the sizing of the flange is a lot more generous than most standard flanges. I was worried about that, as Avent doesn't sell them in multiple sizes, and the flanges on my electric pump were way too small.
I found the suction to be much stronger than my electric, so once you get a good vacuum seal around the breast and the suction is established, a very light hand is needed to express the milk. This is great, as it keeps your hand from getting tired. I barely had to squeeze the pump.
Unfortunately, the suction can be a bit random. Sometimes, if you aren't keeping up a perfect rhythm, it will lose suction. It can take a little while to get it back, so that's really my only beef with this pump.
Using my double electric, I usually pump for 20 minutes and get 2-3 oz. It took me 30 min (15 on each side) to get the same from this pump. That's more efficient than my electric!
