Submitted By: Trish from California Date: 01/27/2009 My daughter is 6 months old and I have been signing to her since she was 3 months old. 'Santa' brought her this DVD for Christmas and it's been a big hit. Like the other DVD's she's watched, it has the puppet shows (a big hit - loves the blue otter) and some of the toys crossing the screen. The DVD divides the signs into groups - family, mealtime, playtime, bedtime. Each category has 3 to 5 signs in it. The signs are shown by adults and children and they also show the printed word and text as they do the sign. They'll teach a section, do a little skit, and then review the section again. It's got great basic signs that would help children express their needs - mommy, daddy, eat, more, stop, sleep, bath, ball, kiss, blanket, friend, etc. I think this is a great starting point for parents that want to sign with their babies, and a great reinforcement for parents that already sign. This was also purchased to help Daddy learn some signs - he's not always willing to learn from me, and this has the basics. My baby enjoys it, and I like that it uses real American Sign Language, not 'made up' baby signs. ASL is a real language with many people using it to communicate, so your child could ask for help by signing and be understood by someone who knows ASL. Another great video from Baby Einstein!
