The Baby Jogger Company was founded in 1984 by a local newspaper journalist Phil Baechler. Phil wanted to spend time with his infant son and enjoy his favorite pastime but he soon discovered that standard baby carriages were not made to endure the stress of long-distance running or rough terrain. He began working on different designs more conducive to running and he aptly named the product The Baby Jogger. In 1986, the Baby Jogger Company developed the first jogging stroller made for two children called The Twinner. Both of these models were made for serious runners with bolt-on wheels and a non-folding frame.

Over the next eight years, the company released different models and refined the next generation of Baby Joggers. The Baby Jogger 2 and the Twinner 2 were highlighted by a folding feature (patented QuickFold Technology) which required no tools as well as quick release wheels that were available in three sizes.
