PamelafromAustin, TX January 18th, 2011 With all of it's safety ratings, I am more than willing to spend the extra money to feel like I am providing the safest option while driving around my little ones. My 6mth old outgrew his infant carrier rather quickly and never seemed comfortable in it. Since switching him to his new 'big boy' car seat, he seems more comfortable and happier while in the car which makes it more than worth it!
sheri January 7th, 2011 We loved this seat so much we bought a second one for our other vehicle, though if we have to switch cars it is easy to install. My daughter seems to be happier now that she is in her big girl car seat but we also had to turn her front facing as she is really long legged!
Priscilla CouchfromAthens, TN December 9th, 2010 I love my daughters new carseat! Not only is it so cute, but I also feel at peace knowing my baby is safe in her new seat. Plus she LOVES it!
Treyz November 26th, 2010 We had bought the Marathon for my son in 2007 and he has loved it, so when it came to buying a convertible car seat for my daughter, when she was 6 months old and she is now 9 months old, it was a no brainer. The reason that we moved her up from her infant car seat was not because of her size, in fact she is rather tiny, but because she was getting frustrated with not being able to see anything. Since we have bought the marathon for her, she is quite happy as well. It was easy to install rear facing and I am expecting to be just as easy to install forward facing when the time come.
Sheri November 24th, 2010 I think this carseat was worth the investment. My daughter seems to be happier in this seat then in her previous seat. It is easy to get in and out but we do plan to buy another one in the near future. If I have one complaint is the height of the seat may be problematic in the future as there is not much room between the roof and the seat edge in my Tahoe.
UlrikefromAustin, TX November 12th, 2010 We bought a Marathon 2 years ago for our first child and are now expecting the second. I could not be happier about the Marathon. The new one has so many improvements, it is absolutely fabulous. We used it from day one and our daughter has loved it from the first time. It is a bit bulky, but I was able to install it into my Toyota Matrix with just a minor adjustment to the passenger seat. It is better now that she not turned around any longer.
wes November 12th, 2010 this is an awesome seat, easy to install and fits our son great. he is a big boy, just turned one, and this seat fits his needs, we are going to buy another one soon.
juliafromblue springs, mo November 2nd, 2010 We kept our daughter in her infant carseat untill she was over 8 months old. I knew it was time for a larger one but when we recieved the britax in the mail I then realized how unsafe she really had been in her small infant cs. This is thing is huge. In a good way. And it really doesnt take up that much more room than a baby cs. It just stands taller. I would definitly spend the money all over again.
Judith StubblefieldfromMiami, FL October 6th, 2010 I did a lot of research and cost comparison before deciding on which car seat was best for us. Upon finding the Britax Marathon I was so excited because of all the incredible safety features it provides, particularly in side impact collision which could cause the most harm to baby. Initially I was concerned about the price for our budget, but knew there was no price I could put on keeping my daughter safe while in the car. Happily, when I found the babyearth website, I got a great deal! I have loved having it and appreciate how easy it is to adjust the harness straps for my quickly growing girl! It is worth every penny and was the perfect purchase for us.
BrookefromAtlanta, Georgia June 18th, 2010 This is the second Britax Marathon that we've purchased - as our 10 month old daughter was transitioning from her [Peg Perego] infant car seat, we bought just one Marathon to see whether it was the right seat for us before buying a second for our nanny's car.
After using it in our own car for a month we were sold. It is soft, our daughter seems so comfortable and it is super sturdy. We like the neutral color options (we opted for two black/gray ones to match our car interiors). So now we have two!
RobbinsfromBlackwood NJ May 14th, 2010 My Grandson was growing out of the infant car seat faster then we expected. This seat is a great ride for Him. He can see everything going on. It is easy to clean, easy to install and nice and material. We did some research and you had the best price and it came on time.
Colorado mama April 20th, 2010 We just started using our Britax marathon and so far its been great. Our son seems quite comfortable, definitely enjoys that he is able to see outside very easily (versus the infant carrier)and never complains when he is in it.
We also loved how quickly our order shipped out to us as well as the competitive pricing we found on this site.
I do however, have to be forthright about a couple of cons regarding this carseat. For all of its virtues (and there are many) it is rather large, though fortunately not altogether heavy.
The latch system on this seat is very simple to use-- but because the base is so wide not everyone can utilize it. I have a highlander hybrid and the base of this carseat overlaps the latch points in my backseat. I could use them, but it is seemingly more stable when I use the lap-shoulder belt, so I'm a little disappointed that I have to do that when my car does have latch.
Last of all, when my son is in the carseat, the bottom buckle is very tight against his crotch area and it appears that this buckle has no option for adjustment of any sort. I found this surprising since infant carriers do, and my son is very much an average size 13 month old.
Stella June 4th, 2009 We did a lot of research before we purchased this Stage 2 and 3 carseat. The Britax Marathon gets great ratings. And I'm very happy with the seat. It was shipped to me within 10 days of ordering. It is also pretty easy to install into my car.
Great product overall
anna June 2nd, 2009 Favorite car seat....we actually own two...highly recommend it.
annafromohio June 2nd, 2009 This is our 3rd Marathon carseat. We have one for both of our cars and also one for Grammy's. Our daughter loves riding in this seat. Highly recommend it!
GRAMMA NA May 27th, 2009 I PREVIOUSLY BOUGHT A BRITAX BOULEVARD CAR SEAT FOR MY GRANDSON FOR THE PARENTS CAR, AND IT WAS GREAT. I NEEDED A CAR SEAT FOR MY VEHICLE AS THE INFANT SEAT I USED WAS GETTING TOO SMALL. THE MARATHON CAR SEAT IS ROOMY AND HE JUST LOVES IT. I REALLY LIKE THE CONSTRUCTION AND JUST TO KNOW THAT HE IS PROTECTED IS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY. I WOULD RECOMMEND BRITAX TO ANYONE.
Laura September 15th, 2008 My husband and I originally purchased a carrier and base system, but our daughter outgrew it by 5 months; we tried several models of "stay in car" convertible car seats, but the LATCH systems were poorly designed and often came unhooked. We decided to try the marathon car seat. The LATCH system is secure and durable; the car seat adjusters are easy to use, baby is comfortable and most importantly safe. One feature we especially like are the Velcro pieces on the side to hold the harness out of the way while you are securing baby.
Alisonfromhoward beach, NY June 16th, 2008 This car seat is very sturdy and was easy to install. I love the way my 10 month old looks so comfortable in this car seat. After researching car seats, we chose the Marathon for its safety features, ease of installation, and straps that don't tangle. We found all this to be true and more. The straps are very easy to adjust with baby in the car seat. We have it rear-facing and it's a bit big and high in the middle seat between my two other children. All in all we are still happy with this purchase and think it's a great car seat.
KerifromOrient, Ohio June 10th, 2008 I did a lot of research before purchasing a Car Seat, I wanted to make sure it was the best (this is my child's life at risk). This car seat had wonderful review through the consumer reports, they are tested daily for safety in different range impacts. I have the cowmooflauge print which is so cute, very east to install with the latch system only took me 5 minutes. I have been using mine for 4 months now very easy to get baby in and out since it has velcour to keep straps out of the way. Another feature I like is different strap levels for the shoulders so many car seat only have 2 or 3 slots to adjust the shoulder straps but this one more so baby is much more comfortable. The material is very soft. This is such a great car seat I bought another one for our second car.
A: Thank you for your recent purchase. The Britax Marathon 70 Convertible Car Seat does not require a base, so you are all set! You may transfer this car seat from car to car without any additional necessities.

I have been comparing these two models and can't decide which to get for my one-year old. Is there one that is more streamlined than the other? I have a six year old in a Frontier85 and we drive a Subaru Outback so space is limited.

Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat
Building on the success of its Roundabout convertible car seat, European-based Britax Child Safety, Inc. launched its Marathon model as the next generation of convertible car seats, able to securely support a child in forward-facing position up to a whopping 65 pounds. As a convertible car seat, the Marathon can be installed facing rear for newborns and infants and then convert to a forward-facing seat to accommodate older babies. In the rear-facing position, the Marathon holds babies from 5 to 33 pounds, and in the forward-facing position the seat can support 20 to 65 pounds and up to 49 inches tall.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the rear-facing car seat position at least until one year old and 20 pounds. The Marathon easily satisfies this safety recommendation by offering a rear-facing harness that will fit most children from birth until well past their first birthday. The Marathon is also an excellent choice for babies who have outgrown their infant rear-facing only seats but are still too young to move to a forward-facing seat. The unique benefit of the Britax Marathon, however, is its ability to hold children up to 65 pounds and 49 inches tall in the forward-facing position, extending the seat's use to age 5 for most kids.
To accommodate the higher weight limit, the Marathon is slightly larger than the Roundabout and weighs 22 pounds verses the Roundabout's 15. The good news is that once these convertible car seats are installed, weight is insignificant because most parents won't remove the seat very often. Even with its larger size, the Marathon's contoured base will easily fit in most vehicles as a forward-facing seat. In the rear-facing position, the Marathon might be a tight squeeze in sports cars and other vehicles with smaller back seats. You'll want to allow 31 inches of back seat space to ensure a proper fit.
The Marathon offers a tangle-free, five-point harness with four harness heights to provide a snug and secure fit for years of use. The seat's front harness adjustment is a lift-lever style and is located under a protective flap on the seat cover. According to Britax, the lift-lever adjustment was intended as an alternative to the usual push-button adjustor and is designed to be easier for individuals with low-hand strength and easier to access in the rear-facing position.
The Marathon convertible car seat includes unique and innovative safety features, such as Britax's patented HUGS, or Harness Ultra Guard System, which helps avoid improper chest clip placement, distributes the harness load to avoid webbing edge irritation, reduces forward head movement, and gently cushions the neck and chest. Another terrific safety feature is the patented Versa-Tether system, which anchors the top of the seat to the vehicle, reducing forward or backward movement in the event of a collision. While most car seats only provide tethering in the forward-facing position, Britax's Versa-Tether allows rear-facing as well as forward-facing tethering for maximum seat stabilization. The Marathon also features a patent-pending rip-stitch tether that reduces G-force effects on the head and body in the event of an impact.
As with other Britax seats, installation of the Marathon is easy and secure using lap belt and shoulder belt harnesses as well as the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) anchoring system that accompanies most vehicles made after 2003 and a few models made in 2000 to 2002. The seat's premium, push-button LATCH connectors ensure a quick, simple, and tight installation every time. If you do not have LATCH or if you'll be using the car seat in an older model automobile with metal locking clips on the safety belts, the Marathon includes built-in lock-offs to tightly secure the vehicle's seat belt in both the rear and forward-facing positions. For children weighing more than 48 pounds, be sure to use the vehicle's seat belts, not LATCH, unless otherwise specified by the vehicle manufacturer. The Marathon conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards and is certified for use in aircraft, meaning you can secure the Marathon into an aircraft seat to keep your baby snug and your hands and lap free. Of course, always check with your airline for any size requirements or other regulations regarding child seats.
The Marathon convertible car seat includes all of the comfort and convenience features that you've come to expect from Britax, including rear- and forward-facing recline options and a one-hand recline handle for easy adjustments to keep your little one content. The Marathon's plush, microfiber cover is removable and washable. Premium comfort pads protect baby's delicate skin from coming into contact with the harness system, and the matching belly pad keeps the lower buckle from irritating or pinching baby's tummy. The Marathon's high density comfort foam gently cushions the child, while the EPS protective foam liner - the most widely used and highly regarded protective foam in car seats today - manages and distributes energy for a comfortable, relaxing ride. Especially convenient are the Velcro harness belt holders, which keep the harness to the side while placing the child in the car seat, making boarding less stressful on the parent and baby.
The Britax Marathon is a favorite choice among parents worldwide, thanks to its intelligent design and versatility. BabyEarth offers the Britax Marathon car seat in nine different fabric options to satisfy every style, including Mossy Oak - perfect for dad's little outdoorsman, and the playful Cowmooflage.
