ERGO Baby Carrier Infant Insert
This is a specially padded and shaped cushion that fits into the baby carrier worn on the front. This baby accessory was designed to extend the life of the baby carrier to serve you and your baby as soon as you would like the assistance of a carrier. This way you only need to buy one carrier that will assist you through all the stages of your baby's development. It can be quickly and easily placed in the carrier and be readjusted or folded to pad just the right places for your infant. The baby is then cradled in a cozy, protected environment close to your heart and breast. It is also a perfect position for breastfeeding.

It is believed that the sling position is the best for your baby's physical development for the first several months. The ERGO Baby Carrier with Infant Insert, cradles your baby in just this position. Both legs remain together to one side, the head leans to the other side with the baby's bottom centered in the middle of the carrier.

Features:
  • Made of 100% cotton batting inside and 100% cotton poplin fabric
  • Cotton materials allow for maximum body comfort
  • Supports newborn/infant's head and cushions their body
  • Insert can be taken out with baby and used as a padded cushion
  • Sleeping Hood can be used as a sunshade
  • Care instructions: machine wash and dry on gentle cycles
Age: birth to about 4-5 months depending on baby's size

I highly recommend the insert if you have a newborn and want to use the Ergo. We have been using the Ergo and insert since our daughter was 3 months old (10 pounds) and have found it adds a nice layer of security until they are a bit bigger. Plus it is nice to wrap them in it and take them out of the carrier without waking them up. I recommend watching the Ergo video (on their website) rather than reading the directions that come with it. We found the video much more helpful.

My son was born at 9.1lbs. He is now 3 months at about 20lbs. I can't imaine having a baby without owning an ERGO (yes, dramatic, but pretty true to how I feel).

I slide him into the ERGO and within 30 seconds he is alseep, and stays sound aleep for as long as I keep him in there (and don't plan to sit for too long). His ERGO naps usually last about 1-2 hours, twice per day, regardless of whether I am standing while watching TV, hiking, shopping, etc. (all of which I do while he sleeps). The insert is necessary (if used right) as it acts as his pillow, and makes for a cozzy environment. As he has grown, the insert has gone from a folded-over protector, to acting almost like a thick comforter (yes, during the day he gets hot with the insert and body heat, but a feeding restores all the watr he loses).

You need the insert or else you will ahve a small baby simply sitting inside a fabric pouch. With the insert it is like they are in a well-made bed. Simply line the ERGO with the insert as they grow. There is no reason they should be crushed or crowded (that is what the adjustment straps are for).

And yes, I am wearing him right now as I type, sitting on the floor, a big baby still enjoying his insert (I know because he would let me know otherwise).

I bought the insert because my son was only 3 months when I bought my Ergo. He was about 15 pounds then and was already too big to be placed inside the insert. He was totally squashed inside the Ergo with the insert. He is now 4 months and 15 pounds 6 ounces and we place him in the Ergo without the insert with one leg out and the other one crossed indian-style in front of him. That position works for us. He is big enough that he is secure in the carrier without the insert. I would only get the insert if you plan to use it from birth, as only small infants can fit in it. I don't think I would get the insert in a warm climate. It is thick and the baby would get pretty hot in there.

We bought this for my 3 month old son and he hates it. He looks like he is squashed inside the Ergo. I think babies over 2 months are probably too big to fit in this insert comfortably.

I actually bought this insert for my friend. When she used this, it really provided great support and comfort for her baby.

The infant insert is nicely made but our baby didn't like being carried in the ERGO in the infant position so we never successfully used it. Now that she can hold her head up and be carried upright we love the ERGO.

I suggest carrying baby in a sling until they can fit in the ERGO without the insert.

We have found other uses for the insert, basically as a glorified burp cloth on our activity mat to make clean up a little easier. But if I were to do it over again, I wouldn't have spent the money on this.

very well made, but it is so difficult to put the baby in ERGO by yourself, requires a lot of practice. Our baby hates being in the infant insert and ERGO, he loves to stay vertically but it is not possible with ERGO - it is not exactly vertical position when he is there. The only our hope that he will like ERGO later without infant insert when he grows up a bit (not he is 2 months old)

I have used my ERGO with my 7 week old several times. The insert is really helpful. In addition to supporting the baby in the carrier, when he falls asleep, I can just pull the insert out with the baby and lay the whole bundle in his crib thus providing a warm transition from carrier to crib.
