The unique funnel features two sets of SoftMassage Pads. The outer set of pads gently surround the areola where the milk ducts reside. The inner set softly cradles the nipple. I would say that this pump is mediocre, as it seems to work on and off. I would tell anyone buying it that the first thing after purchase is to take the pump handle off and use your thumb to soften and stretch the plastic seal, as it took me a long time to figure out that that was the problem. Second, the second seal (the removable one a the bottom of the pump) doesn't stay in well as it gets wet as you pump. it then falls into the bottle of milk and the whole apparatus has to be cleaned and thoroughly dried once again. if this happened once or twice, it wouldn't be such an inconvenience, but it happens once or twice a bottle. I gave the pump one extra notch on the rating scale as I have no experience with anything else and i managed to get a couple full bottles with this one.
