Well folks, a Guinness World Record was set in March that deserves some recognition. And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with longest fingernails or most shirts worn at a single time (anyone else automatically think of Joey Tribbiani from Friends?). No, this record has everything to do with breastmilk. According to CBS Dallas/Fort Worth, Alicia Richman of North Texas donated upwards of 86 GALLONS of it, securing her spot as a Guinness World Record holder for “Most Breastmilk Donated”. I’m no statistics buff, but one could assume that amount could easily overflow a spacious bathtub. Wowza. I get this phrase is overused but it’s a necessary evil sometimes – You go girl! That donation will improve the lives of so many infants. Her main reason behind the overflowing donation? To spread awareness of the benefits of donating to your local breastmilk bank. What an inspiration! You can check out the full story here.
We all know what I’m talking about. The “mom car” stereotype has been around for ages, and it hasn’t always been pretty. However, the modern mom has plenty of decent car options, particularly as the SUV has finally come to the rescue of every mom trapped behind the wheel of a clunky van. But just for kicks, let’s go back a bit…
As a young child, my siblings and I would pile into a beat up gray station wagon with wood trim along the side (oh yes, it really was that ugly beautiful). I vividly remember fighting for the back seat because you could face the rear of the car. Not only was it an entirely different riding experience to face the back, but I was able to squish my face and stick out my tongue at the innocent drivers behind us-arguably the best form of entertainment for any child while riding in a car. Then came the caravan and minivan in my household. Pilot seats were covetable; but as the youngest, I was lucky to graze my leg past it on the way to the backseat…
I have so many memories in those “mom cars” and when I saw this video campaign for Toyota featuring “The Sienna Family” a couple years back, I couldn’t help but laugh. With over 11 million views, “Swagger Wagon” is hard to miss. But if for some unknown reason you missed this viral video or need a reminder/laugh, check it out.
What is your favorite “mom car” memory? What swag do you drive now?
Ah… It’s that time of year again – the holidays have arrived! I absolutely adore this time of year. Fall brings crisp weather, football games, pumpkin patches, delicious seasonal drinks (why are pumpkin spice lattes and apple cider not offered in IV form?), and the perfect reason to cuddle up to your baby! However, all fabulous things have a price as is completely apparent when scanning my closet. Halloween has come and gone (mostly, I swear that pillow sack of candy is actually screaming my name) and the eat-‘til-you-can’t-feel-your-legs holiday of Thanksgiving is next. Noticing a theme here? An abyss of calories is in our near futures! Help.
Grab onto baby and hold tight! Here are some tips to keep the holiday weight at bay, and keep baby happy in the process:
Exercise. Still using a stroller? Before it gets too cold, hit the ground running. Even simply walking around the block is a step in the right direction. Bonus: You and your baby will get some good ol’ Vitamin D in the process. Weather isn’t cooperating? Old fashioned jumping jacks, crunches, and pushups seriously work magic – and it’s something your little tyke can mimic!
Dance with baby! Put on some tunes and boot, scoot, and boogie down with your little one. It’ll keep you active, reduce stress, and your baby will love you for it.
Play outdoors. If you’re inside all of the time it’s too tempting to sit on that comfy couch or shaggy rug. Go outside and bounce around!
Dress well. I know, that sounds weird, but hear me out. That little black dress hanging in your closet is not for nothing. We know that the right outfit can make us feel more confident, just as wearing bulky sweaters can make us feel…how shall I put this…more comfortable to finish that bag of chips because it’s almost empty anyways (when in reality there is about 3 servings left – minor details!). As odd as it sounds, if it helps to dress nicer to be more aware of your body image, then go for it! Plus, this is a great excuse to dress baby up too!
And lastly, always have healthy snacks on hand for you and your baby (depending on age, of course). If you’re prepared, it will be much easier to turn your nose to those holiday leftovers, or at least eating in excess. Know what that means? You’ll have more energy to keep up with baby, and phew, do you need it!

Let’s face it, family bonding time typically revolves around the dinner table, if not only at the dinner table. With limited time already and the holidays quickly approaching, you might find yourself in the kitchen a bit more than you’d like-whether that’s because you are whipping up the next best thing since Aunt Joanie’s sugar cookie or snagging one from the cupboard, that’s up to you, no judgment here! Regardless, more time spent in the kitchen means less time with your family so why not have them join you in the kitchen?
This apron is the perfect eco-friendly adornment to keep your little chef clean. Don’t trust they can sift flour or crack eggs without you spending an extra couple hours in the kitchen cleaning up the mess? Try this adorable cupcake set! It’s the perfect way to get them involved while maintaining your recipe…and sanity!
