Melinda from Calgary May 21st, 2008 I am extremely satisfied with this breast pump. I had severe Mastitis very soon after I started nursing and was immediately put on the hospital-grade Medela Symphony Breast-pump to help draw-out infection. It obviously did wonders. Now, two months later, I use the Medela Pump In Style to keep my milk regulated when Baby gives me a fake-out and doesn't want to eat as much as she thought. My doctor insisted if I were to go off the Symphony I needed a strong pump and my options were basically the Avent ISIS or the Medela Pump-in-style. From what i've heard the ISIS does create more suction. But it's also more bulky, inconvenient to transport, has poor connections, and difficult-to-use tubing, as well as poor availability of replacement parts and accessories. My Pump In Style is not as good as the symphony, but it still gives me the two-stage suction, has lots of power, is very functional, stylish, and is very easy to find parts for.
You can walk into any Target and find a plethora of universal Medela accessories including almost anything you'd need for your Pump In Style. I am passionately a full-time mother so I didn't need this for pumping at work, but I sure don't mind toating my shoulder bag around with me for on-the-go pumping. I've even had compliments on how cool my bag is. People laugh when they find out I have a breast-pump in there.
So all-in-all, get one of the Pump In Style variaties if you want a top-of-the-line consumer level pump with great portability and style. The Avent ISIS is a great pump I'm sure, but only exceeds the Pump In Style in suction power. and if you really need that extra power you may as well rent a Symphony until you can get into a PIS. It's worth every penny spent.
