I have a 2 year old that was able to open the lock on the first try. You don't have to apply much pressure at all to get the lock to release. Once it was unlatched he was able to pull it off the oven with little trouble. It would be a great lock for younger kids OR if you plan to install in a location that a toddler couldn't reach. Say high up on a refrigerator door perhaps.
