Eunice from Stevenson Ranch, CA June 4th, 2009 I figured I needed to buy a new mattress for my third child. As tempting as it was to use the one we had, I didn't want to sacrifice quality especially since they get so much wear out of a crib mattress. After quite a bit of research, I came to select the organic mattress from Naturepedic but chose the quilted one rather than the waterproof one. Having been through MANY middle of the night crib changes with my first two children - I realized it is much more convenient and better to have a waterproof pad under your cribsheet so the waterproof mattress didn't seem so practical to me. Plus, the thought of a plastic-like cover just didn't seem as comfortable to me (and I read complaints of the sound it makes when the baby moves - not ideal for a baby you want to have fall AND stay asleep!) In the case of a leak or explosion (which would always happen to me during the middle of the night), I would rather remove, switch and wash the waterproof pad and sheets, rather than remove a soiled sheet and then have to wipe down the mattress with some sort of cleaning solution. I didn't want to have to clean the mattress with some sort of chemical and then put a clean sheet over that. Who wants to do that sort of cleaning in the middle of the night? Plus, the thought of the smells and fumes of the cleaning solution/chemicals would be something I wouldn't ever want for my baby's sleep environment. So, I chose to get a few of the waterproof sheets from Naturepedic (which by the way are great quality - you always need an extra for the middle of night change) and will use an organic crib sheet over the waterproof fitted sheet. The quilted mattress is plush yet firm and perfect comfort for a baby through toddler stage. I'm very happy with this purchase and Baby Earth offered the best pricing/delivery option for me.
