This is a good idea, but in my personal experience the item is very heavy at least when transporting and proved to be difficult on my own to remove from the box, unfold and then fold into the shape I needed (maybe less a problem for a man). We have been using it for several weeks now. Our son is about to turn 14 months. Although he can't seem to get out, I have seen him pull/push on it enough to temporarily raise it off the ground a hair on the side he's tampering with (we have it in a diamond shape). He just realized he can slide the entire thing a few inches so that he can try to reach objects nearby. I don't know if this can happen on all surfaces. We currently have it in a carpeted room with a blanket below it to catch any drool/spit up accidents.
I'm nervous he will continue to push on one side to slide it toward other things in the room. Perhaps better used in a more empty room. According to the diagram you can assemble it another way and use a wall as the closing side. I imagine if I tried that my son would try to knock it over in the direction away from the wall.

Our little granddaughter was getting entirely too mobile for our son to be able to work on the computer at his studio while watching her. Although the playyard came in with one of the connectors broken, we opted to use it "as is" on a carpet up against a wall, rather than go to the trouble of returning it and waiting for another. Adelyn loves it, and it is helping her learn to walk!

My seven month old son began pulling up to standing and crawling all over so we needed a method for keeping him safe while giving me a few moments to walk away and answer the phone, etc. This gate was exactly what we were looking for. He pulls up on it and walks around holding on and it never has tipped over. We keep it on carpet in a U shape with the couch as the other barrier. Definitely worth the piece of mind!

my grandson just turned 1y/o and my dtr needed to let go of him for a few minutes. we joke that his feet never touched the ground for his first 11 months. this baby cage is huge! i sit in it with him and he can crawl completely around me! it's easy to assemble, easy to clean, has very small (about 1-1.5 inches square) so babys feet wont fit in them. wish i had one of these when my kids were little!
