S & A & Baby Makes 3... or 4! from Rockville, Maryland November 16th, 2008 Finally, a threaded wooden bolt that is both large enough for little hands to manipulate and free from nerve-racking wood splinters, even after lots of use. The grooves match very well, so there's no unnecessary frustration for kids to "match up" a nut and bolt successfully. The ball-top of these bolts are perfectly sized and shaped for little palms to cup securely, while using finer motor skills with the second hand's fingers and a chosen nut. It's actually funny how enjoyable it is to play with these over and over again, in different combinations, all the while doing a fantastic job of exercising dexterity and learning "lefty loosey, right tighty." The two "u" shaped "nuts" can be screwed on to one bolt to make a "circle man," and introduces the concept of a "half" and "whole" circle. The other four graduated nuts can make a simple orb on one bolt, too, for more observations of size and pattern.
We're so pleased to have found a "boyish" toy that isn't overly macho (as too many toys marketed to little boys are these days)and we think this Plan Toys "Nuts & Bolts" set is actually wonderfully unisex, and fun for years (we like to play with it, too!) We're never disapointed with Plan Toys. Simple, good, educational, fun play.
