I do foster care for kids birth to two years old. I have bought several car seats BUT I was not really pleased with any of them. I have been looking for a seat that would work and be long lasting for all my kids. I purchased the
Sunshine Kids Radian
and have been VERY pleased. Very good quality and plush for any of my kids. Easy to adjust and clean. I just bought another one this week for our 6 mos old and will be
buying another one for our three year old. If you are looking for quality and comfort for your child this is a great carseat. Another plus is this carseat is narrow and I can fit three in my Explore with some room to spare.
This carseat is great! It was very easy to install, it's very compact in the car while still giving my son plenty of room. He seems to really enjoy it!
My baby is almost 6 months old. She screamed everytime I put her in her graco car seat. She prefers the Radian XTSL because it is roomier for her legs and she can see more out the window. I have also noticed that she sweats less too (the summers are brutal in the south. My only issue was that she's quite long for her age and she is too big for the extra head rest but too small for the upper head rest. I had to remove the extra head cushion because it was pushing her head forward too much. I had no issues installing the seat (it was more difficult working how the straps work). I had to move the front seat forward quite aways in order to get the seat on the proper angle which leaves the front passenger with pretty limited leg room, my husband hates driving with me now. Overall I love the seat and so does Capri. I don't think I'll leave her rear facing too much over a year, I'd really love the leg room back. The seat is heavy but manageable.
From what I've read, I understand it is significantly safer to keep children in rear facing car seats. The Radian XTSL can be kept rear facing longer than any other seat I could find in the US. (I find it incredible other manufacturers CHOOSE to continue to sell less safe seats here, especially manufacturers such as Britax who sell other seats in Sweden where they must be able to be kept rear facing up to 55lbs). The Radian XTSL is solidly built and was easy to install with seat belts in our Corolla (we don't have the latch system).
My 11 month old had outgrown her Chicco Keyfit 30 seat. I chose the Radian XT because of the steel alloy frame, EPS foam and the weight limit up to 80 lbs. My daughter climbed into the store display model and didn't want to leave, smiling and clapping her hands. Installed rear facing in our 2009 Subaru Forester with latch, a little complicated. Installed rear facing in our 2000 VW Passat with seatbelt, more complicated. This is a heavy seat and I would hate to carry it through the airport but it is approved for air travel. I ordered the Nassau version because it seemed easier to clean than the cloth version. I am a little disappointed that the NHTSA doesn't rate this model and gives earlier Radians a low score for securing the child but I believe they are referring to the installation labeling not crash test results. I could not find any crash test results for the Radian XT other than what Sunshine Kids suggests.
