Baby's First Thanksgiving: The Complete Guide

Celebrating baby's first Thanksgiving is a milestone that can cause both excitement and nervousness. There are certainly a lot of things to think about when it comes to having babies at Thanksgiving, so let's break it down:

Thanksgiving Baby Food

While we love making homemade baby food here at baby earth, we know baby can't eat turkey and dressing. (Don't worry, we're not going to start a dressing vs. stuffing debate on here!).

There are plenty of fall foods that are perfect to puree for baby, including squash, pumpkin and apple. Depending on the stage your baby is in, your baby may or may not be able to integrate things like whole grains.

You also might consider adding a new spice or flavor to a familiar food. For instance, baby cannot eat apple pie, but you might try mixing in some cinnamon to applesauce.

One word of advice, don't try something new on Thanksgiving day. The last thing you want to do is leave the dinner table to clean up baby after something she ate didn't agree with her.

Baby's First Thanksgiving Traditions

It's important to decide in advance what family traditions you want to keep and what new traditions you'd like to start. Thanksgiving with a new baby is the perfect time to not only express your gratitude, but also document it in a new way.

Think about turning baby's hand print into a turkey drawing, complete with date.  You may also want to set out a new table runner that will be pulled out year after year. It may also be easier to plan on celebrating with immediate family only for baby's first Thanksgiving.

Kids' Thanksgiving Crafts

If this is your baby's first Thanksgiving, we obviously don't expect her to start using glue and scissors right away. That being said, there are a few cute things you can do using baby's feet and hands. Plus, if there is a baby at your Thanksgiving table, chances are there may be other kids there as well.

Some of our favorite Thanksgiving crafts found at Babywise.life include a grateful tree, leaf wreath, painted hand outlines or even turkey feathers (follow the link for details).

Whatever you do for your Thanksgiving baby, make sure to celebrate!
