It Takes a Village! @ babyearth
Jun 27 @ 9:00 am – 2:30 pm

Austin Moms Blog has teamed up with BabyEarth to host “It Takes a Village,” an event for moms-to-be, moms of newborns, moms of toddlers, and veteran moms with growing families. We’ve inviting the “village” experts from all over the city to support moms by providing education about their services, answering your burning questions, and setting you up to utilize their support.
Come to Baby Earth, June 27 from 9-3pm to meet your village!

Speakers include:

- Meet Brian, the Birth Guy, our keynote speaker, who’s gracing us with his presence all the way from San Antonio! As the father of Eva (9) and Daisy (5), Brian the birth Guy is no stranger to this world of babies and parenting. Both of Brian’s daughters were born by emergency cesarean delivery. Brian assisted his first birth at 19 years old and knew this was his calling. Having worked with over 19,000 expectant families, Brian has taught many childbirth classes and currently teaches the incredibly popular Dad’s childbirth classes and breastfeeding classes.
Topic: “My Milk Didn’t Come In: Lessons for Partners Working Together!”

Have you heard all the bad experiences in breastfeeding? They are not YOUR reality! Join Brian The BirthGuy for a riveting segment on how to avoid the pitfalls of breastfeeding. Find out how easy it can be with the right tools and aligning with your partner. Brian works with over 250 new couples a month in his Doula, childbirth education, and breastfeeding support practice!
Take advantage of this prime opportunity to hear Brian speak! And, check him out on YouTube.

Brian will be raffling off 3 diaper bags from “The Diaper Dude” to moms, or dads, at the event.

**** We also have:

- Carey Youngblood, owner of Heartsong Music, wants to educate mothers about the social, emotional, and developmental benefits of music and play for babies and young children.

- Lisa Kestler, of Hill Country Placentas, will educate families about the benefits of placenta encapsulation, the process and procedures after the birth, and answer any questions you may have about this beautiful, wondrous process.

- Janis Powers, author of Mamas Got a Brand New Job, and writer for the Huffington Post, will be speaking about adapting from career woman to mother and the struggles we can all relate to as we make the transition into motherhood.

- Phyllis Brasenell, owner of Austin Born, and highly coveted doula, will be speaking about birth support, doula care, and the many services and classes available to an Austin Born mom.

- Chelsea Vail, owner of Whole Heart, will be speaking about Love & Logic for parents of young children, educating parents on the benefits of Play Therapy, answering questions regarding newborn care and healthy sleep, and educating parents about avoiding toxins in baby products and children’s toys.

The Signing Connection- Baby Sign & Play @ BabyEarth
Jun 30 @ 3:30 pm – 4:15 pm

Baby Sign & Play is designed for children ages 0-3.
Classes are scheduled every week:
- Tuesday at 2:30PM & 3:30PM
- Thursday at 9:30AM
- Saturday at 9:30AM
Parent and child participants. $7 per class, drop ins welcome! Buy a block of 4 classes for a discount! Payable directly to Amy, the instructor.

Course Objectives:
Baby Sign & Play Classes provide an interactive learning session for child and parent to begin the path to learn basic sign language communication skills. Research has shown how pre-verbal children, who learn ASL, have reduced frustration and stress by being able to convey their needs and feelings. Learning Sign Language is a fun way for the whole family to learn a second language.

Course Structure:
Class begins with a Welcome Song. We will introduce the words for the week and use them in finger plays and songs. In the middle of class a short “free play” time will be available for children to explore items used to reinforce our new signs and for parents to interact with them. We may also use CD songs and possible clips from the Signing Time series to reinforce the daily theme. Class will end with a Goodbye song. Tips, resources and suggested materials will be available in class.
