Librarian Amie Toepfer shared a fun and worthwhile idea for a New Year's resolution: utilizing the library. She compiled a list of twelve easy ways to be involved in your local library, including high-fiving a librarian and reading outdoors.
Toepfer points out that people tend to "get stuck in a reading rut," in which case it's good to branch out. Read a New York Times bestseller, she suggests. Many of the current best-selling books are thought-provoking and cleverly crafted.
She also recommends attending a library program. Even smaller rural libraries have these, and big city libraries in particular will have many options to choose from: local author readings, cultural experiences, or dance performances, just to name a few possibilities.
Toepfer even suggests just simply checking out a library book, reading a picture book, and telling someone about your favorite book. Immersing yourself in a library may just be your easiest New Year's resolution yet. Click here to read more from a librarian's perspective.
