After searching for the nurse who saved her son’s life, Vicelis Negron was finally reunited with Claudia Lopez. Negron took to social media after failed attempts to connect with Lopez through the hospital due to privacy rules. In a post by Negron, she writes:
"For the past two years I’ve been looking for the nurse who saved my son’s life. I want my son to know and see the person who saved him and who did everything in her power for him to get the help he needed."
Lopez often wonders about how her young patients are doing, and remembers Negron and her son, Jacob, well. "It was very touching she went out of her way to look for me," she said.
Lopez recalled that a couple of hours after Negron gave birth, she started her shift. She immediately noticed something was wrong. She heard a slight wheezing and noticed a blue hue to Jacob’s lips. Lopez swiftly took the baby to the NICU for testing that determined he had a condition that prevented proper blood flow to his lungs. Jacob would not be alive today if it were not for Lopez and her excellent nursing skills.
