Mom Shocked at Baby's Size After Natural Birth

Lauren Flaugher of Missouri delivered baby Finnis weighing 13 pounds and .5 ounces naturally. With her husband, Joe, by her side she gave birth to their second child without pain medication. The couple was thrilled to welcome their son into their family, but weren’t sure what to think when nurses said the scale wouldn’t work. An ultrasound leading up to the delivery suggested the baby would be big, but they didn’t know how big.
"She turned to me and said, ‘this isn't going to work.' At first, I thought maybe they were trying to joke with me," Lauren said.
It was no joke. The spring scale used for newborns did not work for baby Finnis, and a digital scale was brought in to record his weight.
In the midst of all the excitement about the birth weight, proud husband Joe wanted to share more about his wife. Knowing she is more than the mom who delivered a 13-pound baby drug-free, he took to social media to tell others about Lauren’s work as a teacher. Lauren teaches English as a second language to elementary school children.

“She has shed blood, sweat, and tears over hundreds of children. She has been tough enough to discipline them when they do wrong and caring enough to give them hugs and cry with them when they feel sadness. I've seen it all personally,” Joe wrote on Facebook. “She has so much love in her heart...While the story of the birth our son is wonderful, this is the story of my wife that should be shared for the world to see.”
