Rhian Brace found out that her baby Ernie had herpes simplex virus (HSV-1).
When he came home from the hospital after being born, Ernie had a couple little red spots on his head. They were originally diagnosed as eczema.
After several more appeared and more visits to the hospital, they got a diagnosis that made sense. Even though HSV-1 is just a common cold sore, it can be as deadly as meningitis, attacking the brain, lungs, and other vital organs if not treated right away.
After a long line of antibiotics, baby Ernie is well. His mother Rhian only asks that people are more careful to wash their hands and be respectful of parent's wishes.
